For this set of assignments, you will get practice with the realities of working with a(nother) real-world dataset, this one not from the Gilded Age.

Here are links to a folder containing data from Boston’s bike share system, Bluebikes. We have given you four datasets. Three of them represent a day’s, month’s, and year’s worth of data. The fourth represents the stations.

You will apply the Notice and Wonder method to critically interrogate the data. Based on that, you will formulate questions.

Specifically, you must turn in three things:

  1. What did you notice in the data?

  2. What did you wonder about the data?

  3. Based on the above, what computational questions did you come up with? That is, you may notice and wonder about many things, but our ultimate focus here is on questions about which we can write programs to obtain answers.

You may be tempted to wrap up this assignment in a few minutes. Be assured that the longer you stare at the data, the more things you will notice, and then wonder about. We really do expect you to spend at least an hour or two (maybe over multiple sessions/days) letting the data soak in. That’s how you will produce the quality of response that we hope to see.
