- SIZE: 3.6M (download); 5.5M (expanded).
INTENDED AUDIENCE
Dekodiphukan was developed for use by a kindergarten class at the Wheeler School which was learning to read with the Dekidophukan phonetics system. By practicing with familiar Dekodiphukan flash-cards, children also became more comfortable using computers.
EDUCATIONAL GOALS
The game is divided into five levels of difficulty. Each level includes a review of the relevant sounds, a sound game where children match pictures to sounds, and a word game where they combine pictures to create words. The players are accompanied throughout by an animated character "Bob," an alien who can only go home if the children complete all of the tasks.
The program is designed to allow teachers to keep track of each student's progress, pinpointing specific sounds with which they have trouble.
NOTES
This game assumes that the children are familiar with the Dekodiphukan
phonics reading system, and really does not make much sense otherwise.
Also, there is the option for the teacher to be very intimately
involved with each student's progress, but that requires the teacher
to spend some additional time learning how to exercizing
those controls.
