Tips for Writing Well:
- All terms are carefully described before use.
- Topics are introduced in an order that flows naturally.
- No wasted sentences or words - shorter is better.
- No hand-waving - be precise.
- Always ask yourself if your argument would be understandable to someone else - step outside yourself.
- Don't just write about something that you saw somewhere. Be critical first.
- Always introduce what you are going to say (motivate) before you say it. The worst thing in the world is to jump into a bunch of details without letting the reader know why they should bother.
- Running examples are always a great way to convey a complicated idea. Picking an appropriate and pedagogically useful example is sometimes difficult but is always well worth it.
- Figures are good!
- Avoid passive voice.
