In Search of the Virtual Class

The reading for today was Tiffin and Rajasingham's "In Search of the Virtual Class," chapters 1-3. Here are some questions and thoughts concerning the reading and the idea of virtual classes in general:

Will virtual classrooms ever completely supplant "real" classrooms? Should they? Is this another case of a shift similar to the telegraph to the telephone; will virtual classes become the norm and traditional classes antiquated relics, or is there something about reality that virtual classes can't duplicate?

Tiffin and Rajasingham state that "education is communication" and spend most of chapters 2 and 3 expounding on why communication is essential for education. Their Zone of Proximal Development and fractal learning theories simply elaborate this communication model and seem to make no distinction between the various educational experiences that have been discussed in class. Is it correct to say simply that "education is communication?"
