2/5 5/4 Notes from 3/4 8/3 1/7

Our program will be named: "The Frax"

The Frax are a species of cute, cuddly aliens from the planet Tion.  Frac, also from the planet Tion, is the original member of the Frax.  He is the initial guide to the world of the Frax.  User will also meet other Frax in their activities.

The structure:

There will be a initial beginning screen, an imaginary world inhabited by "the Frax", where they and other interesting objects float around to be explored.  There will be 6 floating objects that the user can click on, leading to 6 different activities concerning an aspect of fractions.

1.  One activity will be to match shapes and objects to the correct fractions.

2.  Pizza activity - users must make pizza's, by putting toppings on them.  (i.e. half pepperoni)

3.  An activity dealing with money.

4.  An activity dealing with notation of fractions.

5.  Activity dealing with a concept of a whole.

6.  Activity dealing with fractions, as represented on a number line.

* There will also be a tutorial section, where users can go and learn/refresh their ideas about fractions.

** There will also be an area about us (the coders) as Mrs. Lynch has asked us to include that in the program, so the kids can put a face on the software.

We are thinking about having a tally (in fractions) that show the users how many levels they have completed.  (i.e. if they have done 3 out the six activities, the tally will say 3/6 ... or 1/2? we need to discuss that)

Users will not be able to go to some advanced areas, unless they have found and completed the easier level ones.

The world (the environment), will be a colorful, random, imaginary world with floating (clickable) objects as well as floating Frax who will do certain amusing behaviors.

Next to do:

            1. Storyboard

            2. Visit the classrooms, observe, and talk to Mrs. Lynch about the program ideas.
