Blessed Sacraments has a computer facility consisting of 14 Macintosh computers each having four megabytes of random access memory (RAM). These computers are located in a single room which is supervised by a part time staff member trained in Macintosh-based computing. Classes use the facilities for, on average, approximately a half of an hour each week. However, computer usage is in general sporadic, and the importance of computing as an integral part of the teaching process varies highly from teacher to teacher. When a teacher desires to use the laboratory, he or she signs up for a time slot and then transports the entire class from its home classroom to the computer facility classroom. Students usually use the computers in pairs, since there are often more than twenty-five students in a class.

The computer laboratory appears to fulfill two functions at Blessed Sacraments. First, the laboratory introduces students to computers. Because of this exposure, students are in general familiar with computing basics such as operation of a keyboard, mouse and the Macintosh desktop interface including many icons. Second, the use of educational software complements the traditional teaching approach in presenting subjects. Specific programs used vary widely depending on the class and teacher which are using the computer facilities. We will try to update this page by adding a list of programs used as we become more familiar with them.
