INTENDED AUDIENCE

"Adventures of the Intergalactic Space Cadets" was designed for a ninth-grade "Communications Skills" class at Providence's Classical High School. The program is designed for students who need to work on some of the basic skills found on their high school entrance examination. As a Space Cadet, the students walk through training sessions and missions that teach and test them on basic problem solving and language skills.

EDUCATIONAL GOALS

This educational space adventure is designed for small groups of two to three students working at a single computer. Together, they work their way through trainings on word problems and language questions. They write down their work and answers in the accompanying workbooks. When they've completed training, the students move to mission control, whereupon they embark on a mission which makes use of the knowledge and skills they've gained in the training sessions. The program covers the following topics:

Problem Solving Topics:

NOTES

The application is accompanied by a detailed 50-page workbook in which the students work out and record their answers. The workbook is included as a Microsoft Word 5.1 document, and should be printed out and reproduced so as to provide each student with their own packet. Also included is a detailed teachers' guide.

The "Adventures" are incredibly engaging and educational. The graphics are catchy, the training sections are well-written, and the game flows well. This is an exceptional program that covers a wide range of topics and could be useful in most classrooms!
