INTENDED AUDIENCE

"Stress" was developed for use at the Rhode Island School for the Deaf. Students practice reading text from the screen out loud. The program visually illustrates the proper verbal stress points.

EDUCATIONAL GOALS

"Stress" uses biographical texts about a wide variety of historical figures to help students practice their speaking skills. The texts are organized by subject, such as Sports, Artists, etc. Each text can be read at two levels of grammatical complexity. There are options to read an animated version of the text or a version that includes clear visual markers where there should be verbal breaks.

NOTES

"Stress" includes both a tutorial section and a practice session. Its variety of levels and options allow it to adapt to a wide range of student ability. It is an easy-to-use and well-designed program.
