Reaction for: Strategic Directions in CS Education by Matt C

I found two things interesting in this paper. The first is the idea of having a central area for computer science education on the Internet. I agree entirely with this idea. I think that having resources available based at one site would be extremenly beneficial to many people. One of the things near and dear to my heart currently would be the area of summer internships and jobs available for computer science undergrads.

The other thing that turned me on was the idea of other fields being valid within the realm of computer science. This reminded me of my idea that a high school curriculum could be adapted so that while a student learned computer science as a primary goal, other subjects could be worked in so that the student could learn the material in a way that was not available to him or her before. Thus a student would receive all the necessary curricula for graduating high school, and then on top of that have a strong background in computer science, which could either be used to go on to a higher-education school, or straight into industry.

The changes that can be made to Computer Science Education are great, though not unmanageable. Hopefully in the future some of what has been discussed will have been implemented, and we can judge its success then.
