I am James A. and Julie N. Brown Professor of Computer Science at Brown University. I received my Ph.D. in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering from MIT in 2002. My Ph.D. advisor was Ron Rivest. Upon receiving my Ph.D. in 2002, I joined the Computer Science department at Brown, and have been here ever since. My research here has been supported by the NSF, NIST, the Sloan Foundation, the Peterson Foundation, and awards from industry (notably, from IBM, Google and Facebook). The MIT Technology Review Magazine included me into their annual list of "35 Innovators under 35." I am also grateful to IBM Zurich, the Weizmann Institute of Science, UCLA IPAM, and the Simons Institute at UC Berkeley for hosting me for long-term, fun and productive research visits. A theme of my research is on balancing privacy with accountability, and specifically allowing users to prove that they are authorized even while not revealing any additional information about themselves. My work in this area was incorporated into the Trusted Computing Group's industrial standard, served as the theoretical foundation for IBM Zurich's Idemix project, and informed the National Strategy for Trusted Identities in Cyberspace (NSTIC).
