Second meeting with Dr. Annie DeGroot, Friday 2/14

Since meeting last week with Dr. DeGroot we had some time to think about how we could combine our ideas and expectations for the project with hers, and develop a proposal for how we might accomplish this in our software. This meeting was an opportunity for us to consult her on our revised project description, and to talk about some pragmatic concerns such as how we will acquire the content for the program/website, and how the software will be used.

- The content will be based on what the kids will be learning at ClubDNA, via presentations by Dr. DeGroot. We (Michelle, Vince, Marianne) will meet with Julie McMurry from the TB/HIB research lab for a "Vaccines 101" tutorial to get us started. The Bio160 website will also be a helpful resource for getting material, as it was a course co-taught by Dr. DeGroot in which students created websites on various vaccines as final projects for the class.

- Once completed, the software will be used by the ClubDNA students primarily as a reference. E.g., students may be given homework assignments for which they must consult the web/software for information. Kids will use the software at the French-American school, but it will likely get more use at home. (Thus, cross-platform capabilities will be very important). In a broader context, the software will also potentially be used by students at other schools with web access.

- A concern we will need to address is how we will handle later additions to the site. Is there a way to make the site able to be updated/extended safely and in an organized way by other teachers and students at other schools (e.g., with a login)? Alternatively, we could limit this capability to DeGroot but provide some way for others to send her information.

Next up:
- move meeting with Club DNA to Wed. (2/26), 3-4 pm (or are we skipping class and staying later??)
- meet with Julie for "Vaccines 101" tutorial Thurs. (2/20), 5-7 pm
