Abstract:

ObServer is a storage system designed to support object-oriented applications such as computer-aided design systems, interactive programming environments and object-oriented databases. For these systems to be used effectively, the underlying storage server must support interactive transactions, provide share access to objects and perform efficiently in a distributed workstation environment.

In this paper, we present the design and implementation of ObServer, consider its limitations and discuss areas of current and future research. We also provide performance statistics obtained from three types of example databases.
