Death of Tom Heft

As many of you know, Tom Heft had been battling non-Hodgkins lymphoma for the past few years. He succumbed to this disease this past Saturday morning. He displayed amazing strength and good spirit throughout the ordeal. We will all miss him.

Here is the obituary printed in the New Bedford Standard-Times.

Thomas W. Heft, 41, of Degaris Avenue, South Dartmouth, Mass., died Saturday, March 20, 2004, at Home and Hospice Care of Rhode Island. Born in Winchester, Mass., a son of Eugene J. and Adele (Weestaway) Heft of North Ft. Myers, Fla., he grew up in Lexington, Mass., where he lived for 25 years. He moved to South Dartmouth in 1995.

Mr. Heft graduated from the University of Massachusetts -- Dartmouth in 1986 with a bachelor of arts degree in computer science. He worked for MITRE Corp. of Bedford, Mas., from 1986 to 1989, then worked as a systems manager at Harvard University until 1995. Since that time he ha been working in the same capacity in Brown University's Computer Science Department.

Survivors include his parents; a brother, Robert E. Heft of Avon, Conn.; and a sister, Marianne A. Dwight of Shelburne, Mass. He was the brother of the late Elizabeth A. Heft.

His memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, 27 March, in the J.H. Williams Funeral Home, 210 Taunton Ave., East Providence. Interment will be private.
